Billy Vera (born William Patrick McCord; May 28, 1944) is an American singer, songwriter, actor, author and music historian. He has been a singer and songwriter since the 1960s, his most successful record being "At This Moment", a US number 1 hit in 1987. He continues to perform with his group Billy Vera & The Beaters, and won a Grammy Award in 2013. Vera was born in Riverside, California, and is the son of the radio and television announcer Bill McCord.
Billy Vera and The Beaters live and breathe music. They are constantly playing dates to the fans that appriciate them, and they will appear in the places you least expect them to be. You might hear them do a TV theme song, or appear in a movie, or talk show. When it comes to California, no one does it better than Billy Vera and the Beaters This is Billy Vera. Although this is a pretty good album of mine, from 1976, I receive no royalties, either as the singer or songwriter from it. I will leave it to the conscience of my fans as to whether you wish to support a company that does not pay the artist. One person found this helpful.

This album also does not include any of Billy Vera's work with Judy Clay, with whom he formed the first interracial, coed singing duo in the late 1960s. Recommended for those looking for a good, non-overplayed 1980s song like "At This Moment. The "by request" and "best of" titles are both misleading because this non-live compilation is hardly exhaustive.

Billy Vera talked about the inspiration for this song when he spoke with Eric Greenberg on the Just My Show podcast. Said Vera: "I was living still in New York, and I met a young college girl, about 20 years old. We started dating – she told me she had just broken up with her boyfriend, and she described what he went through when she gave him the bad news. And she was very descriptive. Billy Vera & the Beaters' second album was issued in 1982, and three weeks later, Alfa pulled out of the US and stopped distribution. Said Vera, "The Japanese owners were unhappy with the way the Americans were running the company, and they pulled the plug on the financing, and the company went out of business. So I was without a record deal.
