Bob Dylan’s Electric Guitar Back at Newport Fest for 50th Anniversary. Singer’s famed 1964 Fender Stratocaster returns to the Rhode Island fest. Chris McKinney, the curator of Irsay’s rare guitar collection, brought Dylan’s Fender Stratocaster back to the festival for the 50th anniversary, and according to the AP, the guitar was McKinney’s carry-on item on a commercial flight to Newport. Although Dylan would later claim to have ownership of the Newport guitar, the Fender was actually lost for decades after Dylan accidentally left the instrument on the plane following the 1965 performance. Dylan’s guitar will also be in attendance during a discussion about Elijah Wald’s book Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night that Split the Sixties.
